Riyadh, 29 January 2025 – His Excellency Mohammed S. Barrie, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has emphasized the urgent need for collective action against climate change.
Ambassador Barrie was speaking as guest of honour at the Arab Asian International Day of Clean Energy Conference 2025 (AACEC) held in Riyadh on Monday, 27th January 2025.
During his speech, Ambassador Barrie stressed that climate change is no longer a distant threat, but an immediate reality affecting ecosystems, economies, and communities worldwide. He highlighted Sierra Leone’s firsthand experience with rising sea levels, changes in rainfall patterns, and increased vulnerability of its agricultural sector.
Ambassador Barrie assured the audience that Sierra Leone is committed to the global agenda for sustainable development, recognizing clean energy as a cornerstone of this agenda. He praised Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030, which serves as a model for developing countries, including Sierra Leone, in their pursuit of a greener future.
The Sierra Leone envoy urged participants to engage in knowledge sharing, partnership building, and innovation driving to create a sustainable energy landscape that addresses climate change while promoting economic growth and social well-being across Africa, Asia, and the Arab world.
Ambassador Barrie’s speech was well received by the audience resulting in an automatic recognition award from the AACEC. Ambassador Barrie was awarded a plaque for “strengthening and deepening engagements between Sierra Leone and Saudi Arabia and for building the partnership on clean energy.”
Ambassador Barrie’s productive discussions with stakeholders at the conference included meetings with high-profile individuals such as Mansour Hilal Al Mushaiti, the Saudi Deputy Minister of Agriculture.
Ambassador Barrie also engaged with Saad Fadhel Albuainain, Board Member of the Asharqia Chamber, and Mr. Musleh M. Aldossary, Chairman and CEO of AJYAL PETROLEUM & ENERGY. Notably, Mr. Aldossary extended an invitation to Ambassador Barrie for continued dialogue, highlighting the potential for future collaborations. These discussions ultimately promoted the vision of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, aligning with Sierra Leone’s interests.
