Former United States of America Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Thomas Hull, has on Tuesday, 3rd September, 2024, congratulated Mr. Mohammed Sheriff Barrie on his appointment to serve as Ambassador Extra-Ordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Born in Niskayuna, New York, in 1945, Ambassador Thomas N. Hull is a career diplomat who joined the U.S Foreign Service in 1976 with a public diplomacy specialization. He was the first former Peace Corps Volunteer who served in Sierra Leone to later return to serve as the U.S Ambassador to Sierra Leone from 2004 to 2007.

In an email to the Ambassador Designate, Ambassador Hull wrote “Heartiest Congratulations on your well-deserved appointment as Sierra Leone’s new Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.”

Ambassador Hull described Ambassador Barrie’s appointment by His Excellency, President Brig. (Rtd.) Dr. Julius Maada Bio as “a recognition of his exceptional ability, unblemished character, and commitment to strengthening Sierra Leone’s relations in the United States over the years,” adding that the appointment of Mr. Barrie gives the confidence that Sierra Leone is on the path of progress.

Ambassador Hull recalled how he enjoyed a very good working relationship with Mr. Mohamed Barrie at the Friends of Sierra Leone (FoSL) Board of Directors in the United States of America. “I especially appreciated both the wisdom of your advice and the effort you made to raise FoSL’s profile in the eyes of Sierra Leone’s leaders,” Ambassador Hull stated. He concluded by saying, “In the meantime, from one Ambassador to another, I want to wish you the very best in your new role. I know that you will not only succeed in Saudi Arabia, but will excel.”

Mr. Mohammed Sheriff Barrie was unanimously approved in the Well of Parliament on the 23rd July, 2024, following his successful interview at the Committee on Appointment and Public Service on the 22nd July, 2024.
