By Abubakarr Bah, Information Attaché, Saudi Arabia

A total of Six Hundred and forty sheep have been sacrificed for all the Sierra Leonean pilgrims participating in 1445/2024 Hajj as part of the Hajj ritual. The ritual took place in the outskirts of the Muslim Holy City of Makkah on Wednesday, 19th June, 2024.

A member of the Presidential Hajj Task Force in Sierra Leone responsible for rituals, Dr. Chernor Ibrahim Bah (Dokal) described the sacrifice as very significant for the pilgrims.

“The sacrificial lamb is obligatory for pilgrims who perform Umrah first and then perform the Hajj later. It is the type of Hajj known as “Tamattu” which the Sierra Leonean pilgrims performed.” he said.

Dr. Bah said the government of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio ensured that there is transparency and accountability, and directed the Presidential Taskforce to ensure that a ram is slaughtered for each pilgrim according to the Hajj pacakage. He emphasized that it is an obligatory ritual for the Hajj because the pilgrims performed Hajj and Umrah during the same period.

The slaughtering was Supervised by representatives of the Presidential Taskforce on Hajj, Dr. Chernor Ibrahim Bah (Dokal), Sheikh Alhaji Dyphan Massaquoi, Alhaji Idrissa Kamara (Capay) and the Information Attaché, Abubakarr Bah.
