The Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Mohamed Hassan Koroma on Thursday, 11th February, 2021 paid a courtesy call at the headquarters of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) in Riyadh. He was accompanied by the Head of Chancery/ Minister Plenipotentiary, Mr. Ibrahim Vandi Kondoh.
The IMCTC which comprises 41 Islamic countries (including Sierra Leone) is a pan-Islamic unified front in the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism across the world.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Ambassador Koroma commended IMCTC for the hospitality. He intimated that the government of Sierra Leone condemns all forms of terrorism and stressed that the formation of the Coalition in 2015 is very critical for peace and security in the middle East and the World at large. He further described Saudi Arabia as an epitome of religion and hope for Muslims adding that housing the headquarters of the IMCTC in the Kingdom’s capital was not a mistake.
The Minister Plenipotentiary of the Mission in Saudi Arabia, Mr. Ibrahim Vandi Kondoh described the courtesy call on IMCTC as a familiarization meeting. He said, the Diplomatic team would like to know more about the Coalition and how it relates with other countries. He added that His Excellency the President, Brigadier retired Julius Maada Bio takes the coalition very seriously as a demonstration of his commitment towards the fight against global terrorism.
“In light of this commitment, His Excellency appointed Sierra Leone’s former Defence Minister, Colonel retired, Simeon Nasiru Sheriff to serve as Permanent Representative in the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia”, Mr. Kondoh noted
Mr. Kondoh said, the Mission would like to create a “Military Chancery establishment” to fully support the IMCTC.
On his part, the IMCTC Secretary General, Major General Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi commended the Deputy Ambassador and his delegation for the visit. Major General Al-Moghedi described Colonel (retired) Nasiru Sheriff and his delegate for Communication Lieutenant Colonel Muctarr Tejan as very professional Diplomats that had been doing a great job at the IMCTC.
“They are very professional envoys. They have been doing a great job at Headquarters since they assumed duties and they are one of the best delegates at the IMCTC”, Major General Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi assured the team.
At the end of the closed door meeting, the delegation was shown a short documentary about the Coalition and was later taken on a conducted tour across the headquarters.
